Dayna Morley's Beauty With a Purpose projects

My name is Dayna Morley, I am 24 years old and live in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire. I am a Procurement Assistant in the Building Services Industry and currently studying a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Diploma. In my spare time I challenge myself with outdoor pursuits, in particular mountain walking. I love the team work and personal motivation it gives me. It wasn’t until I had applied for Miss Hertfordshire 2017 and was asked to raise money that I thought about turning my passion into a fund-raising opportunity for Beauty with a Purpose. I was taken back with the generosity and support I received from friends, family, work colleagues and the public. Within only 3 months I had raised £1840.56, with the following activities:

Walking 27 Miles around Rutland Water, Bedfordshire

I’m not too sure what possessed me to walk that far. I thought walking mountains would be harder but boy was I wrong. 27 miles was definitely a challenge but I enjoyed every minute of it. The scenery along the route, cheering and words of encouragement of passers-by kept me going. I had excited children chasing me wanting to donate their pennies into the charity boxes.

Moving furniture around the office

At work, we were having an office move around so in aid of receiving more donations I asked to help. My Manager came up with the idea because I was training for the sports round it would be fun for me to move the furniture around the office whilst practising squats and lunges. I was tasked £1 per lunge! Let’s just say I couldn’t change gear on the way home.

Not eating sweets for a week

My trademark is eating strawberry laces at my desk; my colleagues challenged me not to touch a single sugary sweet for one week! I accepted the challenge as my determination to win the Miss Charity Hertfordshire award was strong. Being without my beloved strawberry laces was harder than walking 27 miles. Charity Raffle

I also convinced my Step-Dad to hold a charity raffle at an industry dinner he was attending; I arranged the prizes and co-ordinated the ticket sales on the night. Also I introduced the charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and gave a speech in front of 220 business men and women about the fantastic work all the girls do for the disadvantaged children worldwide. I found public speaking really hard but this competition and all the experience I have had whilst being a Miss Hertfordshire finalist has helped me conquer my fears.

Now that I have had the experience of raising money for a worthy cause, I have now signed myself up for, Race for Life, and Colour Race; also I am looking into Tough Mudder later this year and hope to take part in the 3 peaks challenge. I take away from this amazing opportunity a number of new friends, greater confidence and of course the good feeling doing good work for charity has given me.
