One of Chinese youth’s most heartening success stories was given a 200,000 RMB cash boost when Miss World contestants presented a cheque to a pioneering young women’s soccer team.

The Qiong Zhong female football team is made up of girls under 18.  Since forming a few years ago, this team of energetic youngsters from local minority groups the Li and Miao people has gone on to achieve rapid success in the women’s soccer league.  Two team members have today been confirmed as new additions to the China national women’s youth team and were proudly presented to the Miss World contestants.

The team was in the spotlight again when seven Miss World contestants (Aruba, Argentina, Germany, Jamaica, Mexico, Serbia and Thailand) visited Yinggen to meet the players and management, and present them with cheque.  They also invited the contestants to join them for a lively kick-about on their training pitch.

A Miss World representative commented on why the team deserves such international interest:  “These young girls are an inspiration to so many.  They show us an example of how a good education and living a healthy, sporting lifestyle can benefit your whole life.  Our contestants enjoy sport and they will take away the message learned from these girls when they return home to their countries.”

On behalf of all the Miss World contestants, Serbia accepted a gift of a basket of local oranges from the town leaders.  “It was an honour for me to step forward on stage to represent all the contestants,’ said Serbia.  “I shall remember this day for a very long time.  It has been a special experience for us all.”

Jamaica, who scored a goal against the talented young keeper, was overwhelmed by the experience.  “This has been the best day so far,’ she said.  “There were so many smiling faces here to greet us. It was very special to see how pleased they were to see us.  I was proud to score a goal for Miss World.  The first thing I am going to do tonight is tell my family in Jamaica!”

Thailand and Mexico also scored from the penalty spot.  “This has made my week, scoring a penalty,’ said Mexico.  “I felt the weight of my country behind me as I kicked the ball.  When it hit the back of the net, I jumped for joy.”

Germany was not so lucky, missing two of her penalties.  “We’re a big footballing nation, of course, but I guess it’s not my game,’ she said.  “I hope I’m not teased about it when I get home.”

A recent Beauty With A Purpose charity auction of items donated by the Miss World contestants raised two million RMB on the night in Shanghai.  Thanks to some generous donations, the total has since swelled to an incredible eight million RMB (£750,000) for Hainan relief.
