| Mianette Broekman, Miss New Zealand, along with Danielle Hayes from New Zealand’s Next Top Model have accepted the ultimate hitchhikers challenge; to cadge rides from Queenstown to Auckland within three days on a $10 budget between the pair. Sixteen other pairs have signed up for this annual challenge including an actress and TV presenter. As part of the challenege, the pairs must also raise $7100 for the Cure Kids charity which aids research into life-threatening childhood illnesses. Cure Kids is Mianette’s Beauty With A Purpose project and one very close to her heart. After meeting Danielle Hayes at a Christchurch earthquake fundraising event, Mianette decided Danielle was the perfect teammate for her, “I think we’re a great team – we’re both very competitive”. Mianette and Danielle hold no reservations in using their feminine charms to catch rides to victory: “As two top beauty queens – we can’t go wrong”. 22 year old Mianette recognizes the amount of hard work necessary to complete this unique task but understands: “what we’ll have been through is nothing compared to what those kids are going through”.
