MESSAGE FROM JULIA MORLEY
CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE MISS WORLD ORGANISATION
60 years is some achievement - Miss World is the longest running event of its kind. Created in 1951, it has grown into a truly international showcase of beauty, fashion, talent and culture. It brings nations together in a way that is unmatched by any other event. 115 nations living together for one month under the same roof, eating the same foods and sharing the same itinerary.
30 years ago I created a new theme for Miss World, Beauty With A Purpose, making the Miss World crown the symbol for fundraising, inviting the contestants and licence holders
from each country to help aid projects in their own countries.
Many of our contestants and licence holders are so motivated by Beauty With a Purpose that they create their own activities to improve the lives of others. We not only encourage this, but wherever possible we try and support them with practical help.
I have always had a hands-on approach to fundraising projects; whether it is housing homeless families across Vietnam or the health missions to Haiti, I have always strived for a better quality of life for sick and disadvantaged children.
Who would have thought that we would be celebrating our 60th year with a record number of countries participating and now firmly established as the world’s most watched annual event!
